Team CCK travelled to Canberra on the 20th of September to attend the Missing Person’s (MP) Stakeholder Forum at AFP headquarters. We joined commander Joanne Cameron, Commander Helen Schneider, Search Dogs Sydney Inc and other NGO’s who have significantly contributed to the field of Missing Person’s in Australia.
The agenda included an introduction to the important and ground-breaking work carried out by the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) hosted by commander Helen Schneider. Commander Schneider’s presentation resonated with the work CCK have carried out over the years, including our belief multiple NGO’s have created similar MP campaigns, duplicating strategies where resources could be better saved combining efforts.
Commander Joanne Cameron delivered a presentation informing the forum on the status of Project Restore: consolidation of advanced DNA, missing persons, and disaster victim identification capabilities. Although the project has suffered significant funding cuts, Commander Cameron is hopeful in her mission to continue the projects significant work.
CCK voiced our continued support for multicultural Australia to continually have a seat in important national discussions. We presented our belief in CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) communities providing a missing link in both MP and human trafficking conversations. CCK have continually designed Missing Person’s campaigns in multiple languages across NSW which have been pushed out through campaigns that involve CALD communities. To date, CCK have spread long term missing persons information to over 100,000 South-West Sydney residence who consider English their second language. CCK have done this by partnering with over 80 local restaurants and cafes, using their most popular products to showcase the missing persons posters in sticker format.
For this year’s MP campaign, CCK pushed out the official Missing Person’s Coordination Centre’s content, our own campaign is due to be released this November, in multiple languages.
